an enlargement of the thyroid gland on the front and sides of the neck, usually symptomatic of abnormal thyroid secretion, esp. hypothyroidism due to a lack of iodine in the diet. Also, esp. Brit.,goi'tre.Cf. exophthalmic goiter.
