  1. a covering for the leg, usually extending from the ankle to the knee but sometimes higher, worn by soldiers, riders, workers, etc. Cf. chaps, gaiter, puttee.
    1. close-fitting trousers, usually with shoulder straps and extending over the instep, worn outdoors in the winter by children, often with a matching coat or jacket.
    2. the pants of a two-piece snowsuit.
