REM' sleep"



Physiol.
a recurrent period of sleep, typically totaling about two hours a night, during which most dreaming occurs as the eyes move under closed lids and the skeletal muscles are deeply relaxed. Also called paradoxical sleep. Cf. slow-wave sleep.
